The Kindness of Strangers

This is a shot from Earth Day. In one of the cutest moments in recent memory, while this little girl created a puppet of a snorkeler, my friend Nora created puppets of the ocean and marine life. Then they took her puppet for a snorkel, which brought pure joy to this girl’s face - captured pretty effectively here. I know this is little more than a snapshot (and I hate the bright white paper in the background), but it’s something different that I thought accurately captured a moment.

Notice the fingers and nails, the wisps of light colored hair, the curve of the lips. These details are mirror images, but for time. The girl glimpses her future self, the woman remember her past. Doubles. A photo narrative, like a literary narrative, becomes most vital when the viewer / reader finds meaning. What does it do to you?
