The Forest

This is Katie among the trees on the Juan de Fuca trail on Vancouver Island, BC. This image holds such an impressive magnitude of emotions for me, as this was the first day of our backpacking adventure which was characterized by rain, exhaustion, and ultimately, the sweet success of arrival. Not only were we carrying everything we needed for the trip, but also all the things we were traveling with for the duration of our three week journey. That included everything for backpacking, sea kayaking, lounging in the city, and everything in between. Katie was hardcore, though - she hiked 21 kilometers that first day, when our packs were heaviest. Not to mention it was her first real “backpacking” adventure…

Depending on what song you’re listening to, this image could take on any sort of ambiance. As this was basically the highest point of the hike, I chose this song, which should present the feeling of relaxation and complacency that was imparted by knowing that.

Hobbits tripping through the forest of Fangorn…. very ominous i hope Dorothy didn’t pick any of the apples off the trees. this is a good photo to get you into the mood for clearing the woods in colorado next week!
