Remote Cobbles

Tully Rohrer

May 2nd, 2007

Sorry for the long delay in posting. Justin has been swamped at work and I have had a visitor at Catalina for the last few days, so Optic Distraction took a temporary (but much-needed) backseat. Thanks for your patience!

My good friend and guest photographer Peter Osborn came to Catalina this weekend. He tested my endurance with epic hikes, snorkels, boat rides and kayaks. We kayaked for over 10 miles to a remote spot on the back of the island where a canyon meets the ocean at a giant cobblestone beach. This is Pete, his office tan, and his handsome chest pelt on the cobbles at Silver Canyon landing. We were visited there by a female elephant seal after passing both a sea lion rookery and a harbor seal breeding colony…. quite a day for pinnipeds.

Song of the Day: A.C. Newman - On the Table
It doesn’t get much closer to perfect power-pop than this track frm the New Pornographers’ frontman.

And the new mix is out:
April’s Optic Distraction Mixtape:
01. Lily Allen - Everything’s Just Wonderful
02. My Bloody Valentine - Only Shallow
03. Illinois - Alone Again
04. Vorcza - Congoman
05. Soltero - Poughkeepsie’s Always Proud
06. St. Vincent - Now. Now.
07. Voxtrot - Introduction
08. Bright Eyes - Poison Oak
09. Andrew Bird - Cataracts
10. The National - Mistaken for Strangers
11. Menomena - Wet and Rusting
12. Ben Folds Five - Missing the War

No fear that posting eye sores will reduce your following? And surely an experienced photoshopper such as yourself could have done something to mute the pasty-white and sunburn-red tones. Many thanks to my guides Tully and Katie - it was a blast.

Chest Pelt — May 2nd, 2007

I feel as though I have interrupted Professor Chest Pelt in the middle of his teaching me about the cobble stones. Good nature show pose, Sir Peter.
